On Friday, Laura and I did some errands and went to the library for some books.  She practiced her bike riding.  She’s getting a little better but she’s still a big chicken.  I know she is wearing the same dress.  It is so worn already and looking a bit tattered.  Her father threatened to burn it because she wears it so much.

We did go to Joann Fabrics after dinner and picked up some supplies to make these fabric covered beaded necklaces.  Apparently, it’s a knock off of Louis Vuitton.  I got the idea from here.  Laura picked the bright orange fabric and I went for the more mature looking brown and yellow fabric.

The wooden beads cost $3.99 for a pack of 30 and they are 20mm diameter.  I made the mistake of getting a fairly thick fabric and it was a huge pain to make it look neat.  Laura’s fabric was nice and thin and easy to work with.

You have to cut the fabric into strips 1.5 x 3 inches, cover the entire back surface with glue and then roll it over the wooden bead.

Use a blunt needle to push the tread through and then tie the end and stuff the remaining material into the holes.

Laura could do most of it but she struggled with pushing the thread through the holes.  Also, she wasn’t very neat about pushing all the material into the holes.  I helped her do that but she really enjoyed doing the project and she is very happy with her new jewelry.
